Many years ago I ended up travelling to America for the first time. Little did I know that I would stay and start living and working in this country.

I had completed my acting studies in Munich, always seeking more and also knowing that I had not yet found what I was looking for.

Cut back to 1987… I am on vacation in Washington D.C. and find myself taking classes with the Shakespeare Theater at the Folger within the first week. When the teacher starts her class I know I found what I was looking for.

This class was powerful, intensive, challenging and for the first time in my life I felt connected to my body and my emotions and was shown techniques to integrate it in my acting work. I knew I wanted more of this, because it was exactly what I felt missing in the ‘head-strong’ teachings that I had received in Germany.

My journey continued – fate or some (divine) plan wanted me to move on to New York City to continue my studies at the Lee Strasberg Institute, the Actors’ Studio, the HB Studio, the Martha Graham School. I was hooked.

But this was not it, to complete this crazy adventure of mine, I was led to Los Angeles where I studied with some of the greatest film coaches. Now I was really on fire.

I knew what I had discovered was so unique and the teachings of American film coaches so truly special that I wanted to do something with it, hence the idea for my international film acting school was born in 1989, THE Studio-international film actors’ training, Inc.

I needed to share this precious information with artists and actors world-wide.

There was something so different, so powerful, so special, so inspiring, so motivating, so deep, so emotional, so practical, so hands-on, so uptodate, so insightful about the way American Coaches teach and this I wish to share with you as I have for almost 20 years.

She just completed working with and coaching for the highly successful director Michael “Bully” Herbig and his casting show “Bully sucht die starken Männer.”

Meet Cecilia de Rico – a magician of voice and body and movement work

Cecilia de Rico is the masteress in voice and body work. What does it really mean to have A voice and to use your voice as an actor. Will people recognize you by your voice? Do you know what it feels like to work with an aligned body. She unblocks all blocks, so the actor can move freely. She takes you on an incredible journey of experiencing your body – your instrument in a new way. You start to own who you truly are and you want to use the power of your voice to let the world know that you are unique, special and ready to be a star.

She is a graduate from the National Academy of Acting in Stockholm, Sweden. Cecilia has been a working actress in film and television for more than 20 years. She has worked with the National Touring Company, regional theaters and ran her own theatre company. Her experience also includes working as a director and a teacher for acting and voice. Her interest in voice brought her to Athens, Greece to study with famous voice teacher Mirka Yemendzakis. Other influences were working with Commedia dell' Arte and Balinese masks with Ariane Mnouchkine at the Theatre Du Soleil in Paris, theatre games by Viola Spolin, London, clown technique by Mario Gonzales, Paris, the Meisner Technique with Maria Gobetti, LA, and cabaret singing.

What did you learn in Cecilia’s Voice and Movement?
Claudia: I learned to connect my body, get connected with my whole body. Find my own sound. Open the body and let the sound go through into vowels and consonants bringing out the words.

Christine: I learned a great deal about aligning my body and freeing my voice. Also, exercises in grounding and opening, awareness of space and communicating with my fellow actor using body and voice work. Fluidity of movement, ‘freeing’ up of movement. Awareness of vowels and consonants.

What did you learn in Bjørns Acting Masterclass?
A simple method to overcome my fears and stay in the moment to focus on what you want in the scene and from your partner or an objective. I am able to understand now the basic issues of acting. So helpful!!!!!!

Thus far I have learned very helpful methods to raise my techniques to the next level. A good warm-up to build “relationship” with scene partners or co-actors. Awareness to give more depth to character by becoming specific.

Here is one of my favorite ‘manifestation’ stories:
One of our actresses in February knew she HAD to come, but had no money whatsoever for the trip. For days she did not know what to do. The head said: absolutely not, how will you pay for all of this.
